Mary Rhinehold Bennett
DANNEMORA - Mary E. Bennett, 91, of Bushey Blvd. and formerly of Dannemora, passed away Wednesday April 29, 2015 at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh. She was born in Dannemora on March 5, 1924 to Amelia and Edward Rhinebold, and remained a Dannemora native nearly all her 91 years. Mary was only two years old when pre-deceased by her father in a mining accident at Lyon Mountain.
Mary graduated from Dannemora High School and Plattsburgh Teachers College. She married Charles F. Bennett on Oct. 11, 1952 and she worked side-by-side with Charles for 30 years at Dannemora Union Free School. Even until her later years, Mary loved to share stories of her now "more mature" students in the area, and they too recall stories of "Miss Rhinebold and Mr. Bennett" as the 4th and 5th grade teachers, prior to their marriage and thereafter.
Mary is survived by her three sons, Charles E. Bennett and wife, Kathy of Saranac, John Bennett and wife, Lori of Bloomingdale, and Michael Bennett of Dannemora. Seven grandchildren, Sarah, Michael, Brooke, Nicholas, Victoria, Danny, Shawn, and Bobby. Also seven great-grandchildren, Gaberial, Olivia, Arianna, Cohen, Hunter, Camden, Brady, and Payton; in-laws Moreland and Theresa Bennett and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents; husband, "Charlie"' brothers, Francis "Dutch" and Robert; sisters-in-law, Jane and Grace Rhinebold, and Leona Owens.
Mary was a Lifetime member of Catholic Daughter's Court Mother Admirable #592, Dannemora, with almost 68 years membership. She also was a member of the Dannemora Free Library, and the Dannemora Senior Citizens Club and she and Charlie enjoyed bowling with the group. When Mary's mother, Mrs. Rhinebold, could no longer reside in her Bouck St. home, Mary, the caring daughter, (and Charlie),unselfishly took them into theirs, where "Granny" was lovingly cared for. Mary was a woman of great faith and always welcomed her pastor's and Eucharistic Minister's visit to her home when she was no longer able to get out.
The family would like to thank Anna and Peggy for the care they gave our mother when she was living at home.
The family will receive guests from 11 a.m. to 12 Noon, Saturday May 2, 2015 at St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora. A Mass of Christian burial will celebrated at 12 Noon. Entombment will follow at Whispering Maples Mausoleum, Tom Miller Rd. in Plattsburgh.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dannemora Fire Dept., Dannemora Youth Commission, or the St Joseph's Church Building Fund.
