He was born in Plattsburgh, Jan. 1, 1931, the son of Henry and Dorothy (Dupras) Butler. Bud was a 1948 graduate of Sallaz Academy in Redford. Immediately following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served proudly for four years. Two of those years were in the United States and two were in Japan in Iwo Jima during the Korean Conflict, with the 1503 Air Group Air Transport Wing.

Bud retired from the NYS Department of Corrections in 1990 following 35 years of service.  He also drove school bus for Saranac Central School District for 20 years.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 1618 in Saranac and the VFW Post 125 in Plattsburgh.  He especially enjoyed hunting and bowling, and was an avid NY Yankees fan.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Charlotte (Avery) Butler, whom he married November 20, 1954; six daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Fred Martin of Morrisonville, Susan and Jack Verterano of Morrisonville, Patti and Randy LaMora of Plattsburgh, Carol and Mark Plumadore of Saranac, Julie and Ronnie Cane of Saranac, and Nancy and Mark McDowell of Peru; one brother, Jon Butler of Averil Park; one sister-in-law, Sybil Butler of Fort Worth, Texas; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; one brother, Robert Butler; and three infant grandchildren.

At Bud's request there will be no public calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015 at the Church of the Assumption in Redford with Rev. John "Mickey" Demo, celebrating. Military honors will follow the Mass.  Burial will be held in the spring in the parish cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country or the Saranac Rescue Squad.
